How We Use POCKET To Increase Productivity
“30 million users, 2 billion numbers of items saved” and counting !
Wondering what’s that?🙄
Let me tell you, 30 millions users are using Pocket worldwide (I am one of them & I’m addicted to it, literally !) and they already saved more than 2 million items, according to POCKET website.
Okay, first let’s see what Pocket is. In our article 8 free apps we use to increase productivity, we mentioned Pocket on number 3. That’s the app we use from anywhere, now and then, to increase our productivity and to save our time (to increase our knowledge as well, trust me !!)
If you find something worth reading or watching anywhere on the internet but you don’t have time for it, you can save it in Pocket and access it later when you are free or ready to read it or watch it. In simple words, Pocket is a free application which allows you to save anything from the internet for later and read it when you are ready. Not only that, if you saved any article or video on pocket, when you will open it in pocket, it will cut all the clutters from the article and you will get only important information. It allows you to adjust text settings for easier read.
That’s it, that’s what Pocket do !
Oh wait wait, that’s not it, there is something (many things actually !) more.
You can save anything to your pocket from anywhere and from any device and then you can read it on any device you want from your Pocket account.Besides that, you can discover content that is personalized to your interests and save it to read it later.
Once you start using Pocket and figure out how you can get benefits using it, you can become A Pocket Superuser too as Pocket allows integrations with other useful tools and services as well. (All you need is little commonsense, really !!)
So, let’s see now how to use Pocket.
Sign up for Pocket :
You can sign up for Pocket in 2 ways :
- Using your Google Account
- Using your Email Id
- To sign up using your Google Account, go to www.getpocket.com and click on button saying “Sign Up with Google”.
A popup asking your google account credentials will open, enter your Id and Password and allow. You will be signed up on pocket and will be redirected to your Pocket dashboard asking password for your Pocket account. Enter password you want and continue.
- To sign up using your email id, after going to www.getpocket.com , click on button saying “Sign Up with Email”.
You will be asked for your name, email id and password you want. Enter these details and click on “Sign Up”. You will be redirected to your Pocket dashboard. But you will have to confirm your email id.
To do so, go to your mail inbox and find mail you may have received from firstname.lastname@example.org which will be looking like image given below:
In mail, click on “Confirm Your email” button and your email will be confirmed.
Log in to Pocket :
To log in to your Pocket dashboard, go to www.getpocket.com and click “Log In” button placed on upper right corner.
If you signed up on Pocket using your Google Account, you can log in to your Pocket dashboard using your Google Account. To do so, click on “Log in with Google” and you will be logged into your pocket dashboard directly.
But if you signed up on Pocket using your email id, enter your “email id or username” and “Password” in the relevant boxes and click on “Log In” button.
How to save on Pocket :
You can save on Pocket in many ways. By mailing from your registered email id to pocket, from pocket website, from Pocket iOS app, from Pocket android app, using Pocket chrome app, using Pocket browser extensions for Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera, using Pocket bookmarklet, etc.
And you know what’s the wonderful thing here? You save from anywhere, but still you can access anything you saved from anywhere, on device you like, be it your iOS app, your android app or your Pocket dashboard on your browser ! (Cool, Isn’t it?!)
Let’s see how you can save anything on your Pocket through different ways.
Save using Email to pocket :
You can save any link to your Pocket just by sending an mail.
To do so, from your registered email id, mail link you want to save to “email@example.com“

Save from Pocket website :
You can save any link from Pocket website as well.
Once you will log in, you will be taken to your Pocket dashboard which will look like image below :
First of all, copy the link you want to save into your Pocket. Now go to your Pocket dashboard and click on “+” button on upper right corner of the dashboard. A box will open asking for link, paste the link you just copied and click on “Save” button. Your link will be saved into your Pocket.
Save from Pocket iOS app :
Suppose that you found any link you want to save to your pocket while surfing internet on your i-phone or i-pad, you can do that too using Pocket app on your device.
To do so, first of all download Pocket’s iOS app from here.Then open the app and log in. Once you’re logged in, it will show you suggestions of how you can save any links to your Pocket using app. In that, first option will be through share extension and it will ask you to enable share extension, as shown in image below. Click on “Enable Share Extension” button.
After enabling share extension, you can save articles from anywhere on your phone by clicking on share button. Let’s take an example, suppose that you found our article “8 Free Apps We Use To Increase productivity” which you want to read but you are in a hurry. You opened it in chrome on your i-phone.
To save it to Pocket from there, click on three dot menu on your tab and then click on share button, as shown below. From menu which will open after clicking on share, find Pocket from the options and tap on it.Article will be saved into your Pocket.
Save from Pocket Android app :
You can save any link to your Pocket using Pocket’s android app as well.
To do so, first of all install Pocket app on your android device from here and log in to your Pocket account. Now you will be able to save links from your browser to your pocket.
Suppose that you found one of our article “How we use TRELLO to increase our productivity” and you want to save it to read later or for future references. To do so, go to your chrome browser menu by clicking on three dots on upper right corner of your browser and find “Share” option from the drop down. Click on it, find “Add to Pocket” from menu which will open and click on it and link will be saved to your Pocket.
When you are doing this for the first time, your device will ask for some permissions,allow it and you will be able to save any links from your browser just by tapping “Add to Pocket” option from second time onward.
Save from Pocket Chrome App :
You can use Pocket’s chrome app to save any link or access all the links you saved.
First of all, download Pocket chrome app from here. Then log in to your Pocket account.
When you will be logged into your account, you will see Pocket dashboard as shown in image given below.
On the dashboard, look for the “+” button on the upper left side and click on it. A box will open, paste link you want to copy in it and click on save.
Save using Pocket Browser extensions :
Pocket also provides browser extensions to make saving any link hassle free. You can add this browser extension and save any link right within from your browser while that page is open !
Let’s take an example that you are using Google chrome. First of all, add chrome extension from here. It will be added to your Google chrome browser and symbol of pocket will be visible beside address bar, as shown in image below.
Now suppose that you landed on a webpage which you found fascinating and worth reading, but you are busy and can’t read it at the time. To save that webpage to your pocket, just click on that little pocket button beside the address bar of the tab and your link will be saved to your pocket !

Save using Pocket bookmarklet :
Now to make saving links even more easier, pocket provides you with bookmarklet as well. For those who don’t know what bookmarklet is, it is a little button you can add to bookmark bar of your browser.
Let’s take an example of Google Chrome bookmarklet here. First of all go to THIS LINK and click on “Or install the bookmarklet”.
You will see a red button with “pocket” written on it, long click that button and drag it to your browser’s bookmark bar.
Pocket bookmarklet will be added to your browser’s bookmark bar.
Now when you want to save any link to your pocket, just click on that bookmarklet when you are on the page you want to save. Your page will be saved and you will see a notification bar saying “Link Saved !”
